Chumphon Pinnacle

Chumpon Pinnacle

Chumphon Pinnacle is a dive site to the west of the island has a reputation for divers in search of both whale sharks and bull sharks. However, because of the warmer water temperatures over the last year a great amount of bull sharks have migrated to cooler waters.

It lies about 11 km northwest of Koh Tao and is formed by huge granite pinnacles. The site is surrounded by a series of smaller ones. You will take about 40 minutes to get there. The anemone covered boulders run in a north-south direction in water ranging from 14 to 38 meters.

The Pinnacles are full of batfish, trevallies, big shoals of barracudas and snappers. In occasion, this site also attracts a large numbers of visitors such as whale sharks and manta rays. To the south of the main pinnacle lies Barracuda Rock, where large shoals of great barracudas aggregate. This is my favourite divesite on Koh Tao after 9 years of diving on this island!
